The benefits of neutering dogs are that male dogs can be neutered to prevent testicular cancer and prostate enlargement. Female dogs can be prevented from developing gynaecological problems such as pus in the uterus. The disadvantages of neutering are that it can lead to excessive obesity and there are a few reports of higher rates of osteosarcoma in neutered dogs than in unneutered dogs.
