The advantages of the Old Shepherd are its docile nature, loyalty to its owner, large size and lovely appearance. The disadvantages are that the dog needs a large water bowl to drink from, which can cause the hair at the corners of the dog’s mouth to turn yellow, and that the coat is fine and can become tangled if not brushed for a long time. The intelligence of the Old Shepherd is not very high and can be difficult to domesticate.
