The ancestors of the Eskimo are fox dogs with pointed mouths, and curly tails, erect ears and clean faces. They live in extremely cold regions and are very good working dogs, having previously been used for transporting goods and catching prey. They are gentle, friendly and very alert. All in all, still relatively well bred.
