Is de-sexing cats by removing the uterus?

The female cat’s ovaries (where the eggs are produced), fallopian tubes, uterine horns (the two long tubes of the uterus where the foetus develops and grows), and a section of the uterine body (where the two long tubes of the uterus merge) are surgically removed. Basically, the part of the female reproductive tract that is removed is the part responsible for egg production, embryonic and foetal development and the secretion of female reproductive hormones (mainly oestrogen and progesterone). The removal of these structures has a major role to play: population control in felines, control of genetic diseases in cats, prevention and treatment of various medical diseases (ovarian and uterine diseases, hormone-induced diseases) and behavioural modification in female cats (e.g. some behaviour during oestrus).
