Is a dog scratching because it has fleas?

In general, you cannot tell if a dog has fleas just by the fact that it is scratching frequently. This is because a dog’s scratching may be due to superficial itching of the skin, or it may be due to a sensible skin disease, an ectoparasite infection or other causes. If it is not caused by normal itching of the skin, prompt medical attention is recommended.
