Initial symptoms of gastroenteritis in dogs: Dogs will often lie on their bellies on the cool ground, have a reduced appetite and indigestion with vomiting and diarrhoea. Later symptoms: As the condition worsens, the dog may exhibit unsteadiness in walking, occasional bloody stools and increased body temperature, and may even become severely dehydrated. Fasting for a day with appropriate oral rehydration salts is recommended, as is abstaining from water if vomiting is present. While keeping your dog warm, you can give him a little probiotic to help restore his intestinal tract to normal function. If diarrhoea is caused by parasites and and other serious illnesses such as microviruses, coronaviruses, pancreatitis etc., see a doctor as soon as possible who will determine the duration of the fast depending on the progression of the illness.
