The three main colours on the market for the Sheltie are black, silver grey and white. The Chenille is also known as the old man’s dog because it looks like an old man. The following points should be noted when selecting a Sheltie: (a) Sheltie puppies should preferably be over two months old and have a lively personality. (ii) Choose a Sheltie puppy that is rounded and has very thick bones. Long neck, short back, high tail and good hindquarters. (iii) The puppy has a good appetite and is very active. (d) The eyes of a Sheltie puppy are bright and clear for a healthy dog, and the nose of the puppy should be moderately moist. (except when asleep and awake). (v) The puppy’s teeth should have a clipped bite and the gums and tongue should be a healthy pink colour. The area around the anus should be clean. The inside of the ears should be a clean pink colour. (vi) The skull of the Schnauzer puppy should be flat and parallel to the muzzle. The coat should be coarse, plentiful and shiny.
