Cat’s right paw suddenly swells up

It is important to watch for signs other than sudden swelling: lameness, injured paws licking or biting paws, warm paws caused by inflammatory infections or abscesses, foul odour possibly due to infection. Possible causes of swelling include: insect bites and stings, trauma, puncture wounds from sharp objects, lacerations, bruises, sprains, fractures and dislocations, overgrown nails (which grow into the flesh) and if you cannot judge for yourself at home, it is best to take it to the hospital for a detailed examination by a doctor.
