Many breeds of cats are now inbred to achieve pedigree preservation. However it is not actually very recommended to allow cats to inbreed. Just like inbreeding in humans, inbreeding in cats can also result in genetic homogeneity, leading to the occurrence of some genetic diseases and reduced resistance to some breed-susceptible diseases, which is not beneficial to the long-term survival of the cat as a species.
