Can cats be shaved in summer to cool down?

Cats do not need to be shaved to cool off in the summer. Shaving does not make them feel cooler but can lead to skin diseases. Cats mainly use their foot pads and breath to dissipate heat. Unlike humans, cats have sweat glands around their mouths and on the fleshy pads of their paws. When a cat feels hot, it will stretch out its pads to dissipate the heat. However, it is possible to cut the hair on the bottom of the cat’s feet to help cool it down.
