The bacteria and viruses that cause cold and cough in cats do not infect humans; viruses have minute differences and diseases have species properties that do not cross-contaminate. Avian influenza does not originally infect humans either, but it is also due to humans that the virus mutates and the mutated strain infects humans. Rabies and parasites can be transmitted to humans, but they can be prevented if the owner does a good job of deworming and vaccinating.
