Dogs should not eat persimmon peels. Persimmon peel contains tannic acid, which interacts with protein under the action of stomach acid to produce precipitates – persimmonite, which can harm the dog’s stomach mucosa and, in the case of green persimmons, cause indigestion. Therefore, it is recommended that dogs not be given persimmon peels. It is safe for dogs to eat small amounts of ripe persimmons, but persimmons contain alkaloids and atropine, which are also dangerous when consumed in large quantities. Dogs should not eat persimmons because their intestines are weak and cannot effectively digest and absorb the nutrients in persimmons. In addition, dogs that eat persimmons for the first time, or those that have eaten an excessive amount of persimmons, can have problems such as gastrointestinal absorption disorders.
