Puppies poop several times a day to be considered normal

If the puppy is less than 1 month old, it usually defecates only once a day. At this stage the puppy cannot defecate on its own, so the mother needs to lick the puppy’s anus to stimulate defecation, or the owner uses a cotton swab to wipe the puppy’s anus to help defecate. If the puppy is more than 1 month old, then the number of bowel movements is 1-2 times a day. The puppy’s stool is striped and usually yellow or brown in color.
