Dogs mouth ulcers, not just “fire” so simple

The dog’s mouth is swollen and often smells foul, many times it may be the fault of a mouth ulcer. Dog mouth ulcers are due to the abnormal proliferation of pathogenic flora in the dog’s mouth, such as Clostridium difficile and Helicobacter, which breaks the normal balance of flora in the mouth, resulting in inflammation of the mouth. Causes of oral ulcers in dogs are mainly caused by the following: 1. Dental gum injury Physical trauma in the oral cavity is a common cause of oral ulcers, when the dog’s teeth or gums are damaged, often accompanied by oral mucosa breakage and inflammation. Dogs may be cut by sharp objects in the mouth, or may be stabbed by sharp food, such as bones, when eating, while dogs may also be bitten on the lips tongue and other places during fights, thus causing oral ulcers. Facial skin folds Bulldogs, Pinschers and other dogs have natural skin folds on their faces, which may irritate the oral mucosa and cause mouth ulcers, but this is less common. 3. Oral papillomas Papillomas are caused by the papilloma virus. They can appear on the lips, mouth, and face of dogs and usually affect puppies under 2 years of age because the dog’s immune system is not fully developed at this time. Papillomas are usually benign, but they are contagious, so owners need to isolate their dogs. If the papilloma is determined to be benign after examination, the dog’s papilloma will usually go away on its own. Gum growths Gum ulcers in dogs can also be the result of an overgrowth of gum tissue, forming a small, white tumor that is usually benign, but it is best to check to prevent the tumor from becoming cancerous. 5. Kidney disease Oral ulcers in dogs may be a symptom of kidney disease, especially in advanced kidney failure. 6. Autoimmune disease An autoimmune disease called aspergillosis can also cause dogs to develop mouth ulcers, and this disease can appear in multiple locations. Blisters, sores, and ulcers can appear on a dog’s skin when the dog’s immune system attacks the gelatinous layer of skin, or the junction of mucous membranes and skin, such as the mouth, nose, eyes, anus, etc. In addition to mouth ulcers, the common pemphigus can cause fever, depression, and loss of appetite in dogs. The dog’s skin may also become itchy, sore, and even infected with bacteria. In the early stages of the disease, the main clinical signs are: irritability, anorexia, shortness of breath, elevated body temperature, heavy drinking, constant flow of mucus around the mouth, red, swollen and bloodied gums, blister-like material on the tongue, and a pungent odor. When the disease develops to a later stage, the dog’s body temperature will rise rapidly, often reaching 41 degrees Celsius or more, the dog is depressed, malnourished due to prolonged anorexia, extremely thin, walking shakily and unstable, and in serious cases, blood in the stool and lying down. The pathogen of the disease mainly affects the balance of the flora in the canine oral cavity, with the development of the disease, and then triggered other secondary diseases, so the treatment of the heel is to eliminate oral inflammation, the specific treatment methods are as follows: 1. saline or 5% alum solution, thoroughly rinse the dog’s mouth to remove necrotic mucosa, if the inflammation leads to partial tooth necrosis ulceration, to extract the bad teeth; 2. for the serious condition of For dogs with serious conditions, apply gentian violet to the oral ulcers or spray the affected area with watermelon cream spray; 3. Take vitamin B tablets orally three times a day and supplement with vitamin C in large quantities; 4. For dogs showing high fever, add 150-200ml of 5% glucose injection to Qingkai Ling or Shuanghuanglian for intravenous injection; if the dog also has symptoms of acidosis, 10-20ml of 5% sodium bicarbonate should be injected intravenously in time; 5. If the dog has bleeding on the tongue and mouth wall and blood in the stool at the same time, vitamin C, hemostatic minerals and painful lidine should be injected in time. How to prevent oral ulcers in dogs? 1. Keeping the dog’s oral hygiene can prevent many dental problems and oral infections in dogs. Therefore, the owner can take the dog to the hospital regularly to clean the teeth, and usually check the dog’s mouth and teeth more often. At the same time, for those dogs with facial folds, the owner may need to give the dog a bath on time, if necessary, you can also apply some antibacterial cream to prevent inflammatory ulcers. 2. ensure that the dog enough water, a long time lack of water will lead to excessive secretion of saliva from the oral mucosa, increasing the concentration of cellular fluid in the mucosal wall, leading to inflammation; 3. do not feed the dog too much leftovers, try to eat dog food as much as possible to ensure its nutritional balance; 4. the dog’s living environment to ventilation, regular sterilization. Note that if the owner finds that the dog has a mouth ulcer, you can write down other symptoms or abnormal behavior of the dog, which facilitates the doctor to better determine the cause of the disease, such as: whether the dog feels pain and does not want to eat, whether the dog will drool, whether the dog’s teeth will chatter, whether the dog is always sleeping, etc.
