Surgery for cryptorchidism in dogs is, of course, the earlier the better, and you can prepare your dog for surgery once you find out about it. It is recommended that the surgery be done around 6 months of age, when the dog’s reproductive organs can be checked for health and at the same time the vaccinations are completed and the body is relatively healthy. A normal testicle should descend from the abdominal cavity to the scrotum after birth. Cryptorchidism is a condition in which the testicle cannot descend to the scrotum normally due to various reasons. Since the testicles require a lower temperature than the body temperature, the testicles that do not descend normally to the scrotum are warmer than inside the scrotum, and this can cause cancer of the testicles. The main dangers of cryptorchidism are reduced or lost reproductive performance, tumoritis, epididymitis and testicular tumor. Therefore, if a dog has cryptorchidism, it needs to be treated at the vet hospital immediately. The best time to operate on a dog with cryptorchidism is usually as soon as it is discovered, the earlier the treatment the less likely it is to become cancerous.
