How to see the Labrador’s character? A good-looking Labrador’s head should have a distinct outline, wide nostrils, strong and neat teeth, and medium-sized eyes; bone must be abundant, with dense bones, well-developed muscles, and a broad front chest; the Labrador’s coat is short and smooth, with black, yellow, and chocolate colors. The head is well defined, without a lot of flesh on the cheeks. The head has a clear bone line and is well defined under the eyes, but the cheeks are not prominent. The head shows a slight center line; the lips cannot be square or drooping. However, a curve is formed toward the throat. The nosepiece is broad and the nostrils are very well developed. Yellow or black dogs have black nosepieces, chocolate colored dogs have brown nosepieces, and nosepieces that fade to a light shade are not a defect. A nosepiece that is thoroughly pink or a nosepiece that lacks any pigment is a disqualification. Teeth teeth are strong and neat. The ears hang, moderately close to the head, positioned rather back and slightly below the head; slightly above the level where the eyes are. The ears should not be too large or heavy, but in harmony with the proportions of the head, extending to the inside of the eyes when pulled forward. The eyes are sharp and friendly showing good temperament, intelligence and quick wit are the characteristics of this breed. The eyes are medium sized and positioned wide apart, neither prominent nor deeply positioned. Black or yellow dogs have brown eye color and chocolate colored dogs have brown or hazel eye color. Black or yellow eyes make the expression harsh and unwanted. Small eyes, eyes positioned too close together, round and prominent eyes are not typical of the breed. Black or yellow Labrador Retrievers have black eye rings and chocolate Labrador Retrievers have brown eye rings. Lack of pigmentation in the eye ring is out of character. The bone mass should be sufficient, look at the size of the paws , the bones are tight and the muscles are strong and developed. A larger front chest is preferable. The Labrador Retriever has a distinctive coat. The coat is short, straight and very dense. It also feels very hard when touched when small. There are three colors: black, yellow and chocolate. However, if there are mixed with other colors of hair, it is not pure, black chest if there is a handful of white, considered out of order.
