The French Bulldog is heavy-boned, with a smooth, compact coat and a medium or small body, a lively, intelligent, muscular dog with an expression that appears alert, curious and interested. The French Bulldog’s coat is short, slender and lustrous, with a variety of colors such as tiger-spotted, fawn and white. Smaller than the average bulldog, the French bulldog is particularly attractive with its bat ears. The body is short and round, with strong bones, well-developed muscles and a compact structure; the chest is wide and deep, the ribs are full and closed; the shoulders and back are wide, short and strong, the waist is narrow, the hindquarters are curved and the belly is developed. ★ Body height: about 30 cm. ★ Body weight: 10~14 kg. ★ Head: large square head, flat skull cap in the area between the two ears, frontal segment is obvious, there is a clear depression between the eyes; muzzle wide and deep; cheek muscles are well developed; nose short and wide; lips loose, wide, but not salivating, black color, shut up when not showing teeth; jaw deep, quadrangular, wide and not prominent, slightly curved. ★ Ears: wide at the base of the ears, with rounded and erect bat ears at the end; the root of the ears is positioned high, the two ears cannot be too close together, the ear hairs are fine and soft, and the ear holes face forward. ★ Eyes: Located under the skull, far from the ears; eyes are dark, not concave and slightly protruding, and the transient membrane and conjunctiva are not visible from the front. ★ Neck: The neck is slightly short, thick and slightly arched, with loose skin in the throat and a few folds. ★ Torso: short round body, thick bones, well-developed muscles, compact structure; broad and deep chest, full and upward rib; broad, short, strong shoulders and back, narrow waist, large curvature of the hindquarters, well-developed abdomen. Genitalia must be sound. ★ Limbs: strong and powerful limbs, well-developed muscles, standing in a special position; forelimbs short and strong, bending slightly rotund; wide spacing between the two shoulders; hind limbs strong, longer than the forelimbs, full of muscle, so the waist than the shoulders to be high; feet of moderate size, compact, short toes, short claws. ★ Tail: straight or spiral (but not curled), short, pendulous, thick at the root, and thin at the tip. It droops downward when resting. ★ Coat: coat smooth and short smooth, close to the skin, soft and lustrous. The skin is soft and loose, and there are often folds at the head and shoulders. ★ Coat color: tiger-spotted, camel, white, tiger-spotted with white, and other colors (in addition to out-of-range colors). All colors are acceptable except for pure black, mouse, liver, black with brown, black with white or white with black which are out of order. Black is defined as black without tiger spots. ★ Gait: Unique, flexible and soft pace with very good bounce.
