How to give first aid treatment to cats with broken bones

Because cats are active, they are prone to falls and even fractures. When a cat is limping or dragging its feet or even unable to walk, parents must pay attention to the possibility of a fracture. In the absence of a veterinary hospital, in order to treat the cat, parents have to do what? First Aid Step 1. Determine the location of the fracture. If the cat is not traumatized, the injured cat can be gently laid down and gently touched from the spine to the limbs, and if the fracture is touched the cat will generally scream. If the cat has trauma, the cat should be cleared to stop the bleeding. Cat trauma debridement can be done with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Note that cats are sensitive to iodine, so trauma debridement must not use tincture of iodine. If the bleeding does not stop, a tourniquet can be wrapped twice around the wound 3-4 cm from the wound near the heart and tied in a knot. A hemostatic medicine can be applied to the wound with Yunnan Baiyao to stop the bleeding and reduce swelling. 2. The fracture of the cat is the key to success or failure, if you can not do the bone, it is best to ask experienced people to help, generally even the countryside can find the treatment of human bone-setters, you can ask them to help. 3. fixed. First apply Yunnan Baiyao to the injury and wrap the fracture site tightly with sterilized gauze, but be careful not to strangle it to prevent poor blood flow to the cat, which can be wrapped around 5 turns. Then find a board suitable for the length and size of the cat’s injury and fix the fracture site with gauze so that the cat cannot move and bend the fracture site. 4. Inject or take anti-inflammatory drugs. After fixing the injury, you need to inject or take anti-inflammatory drugs regularly to avoid fever and wound infection and inflammation in cats. You can go to the pharmacy to buy 0.5g of cephalosporin and lidocaine hydrochloride injection (or sterilized water for injection, the cat does not feel pain when lidocaine is injected, sterile water will feel painful), mix thoroughly and take half the dose for the cat to inject subcutaneously (lift the cat’s neck skin and inject at the back of the cat’s neck, be careful not to pierce the cat’s meat). The effect of the injection will be better than the effect of taking medicine. Anti-inflammatory injections are best given once a day. 5. Post-fracture care. A cat with a fracture must limit its activities and choose a quiet and comfortable place for it to rest fully. It is best to place a larger single-layer cage in a quiet place with a soft and comfortable litter, food and water, place the cat in the cage, and gently carry the cat out at regular intervals or when you see that it wants to poo to make it convenient. The diet should be supplemented with protein, fish is a good choice and can be boiled (preferably with the bones cooked to softness) and fed to the cat. At the beginning of the injury, the cat will probably refuse to eat because of the pain, so be sure to prepare some glucose water to ensure the cat’s need for calories and nutrition. If there is trauma, clean and change the cat’s wound every 3 days. Note 1. During the operation the cat must feel painful and must struggle, so have two or more people to complete the operation and be sure to hold the cat down not to let the cat move around. In the process of fixation, it must be wrapped firmly, otherwise the broken bone can not be fixed, even if the cat screams, it should not be soft. When changing the medicine, be sure to hold down the cat so that the fracture does not come off again. 2. Cats are more resilient and can generally recover in 1 to 2 months, and their recovery will not affect their normal life. If the cat has a fracture and there is no veterinary hospital where you live, you can follow this method for emergency treatment, but if there is a veterinary hospital, it is recommended to take the cat to a veterinary hospital for more professional treatment.
